A sure way to avoid any challenges in gear shifting is to pause for a couple of seconds when transitioning. We rarely go in reverse, except when in training to teach maneuvers, so the gears primarily used are neutral and drive. Thanks for your question and for being a part of transportation!

Re: The home of the air pressure gauges is next to the speedometer.

Nice bus. I drive a school bus for a district in the KC metro area, and some of our trip buses have the button-push gears like yours. I wouldn't mind driving a bus with that, looks easier than a shifter-knob. Has that ever malfunctioned on you before?

Re: Spring Break Service Reductions

Yes, it is possible. As you mentioned, the current programming for the signs lists the final destination for the direction of travel. To insert points along the way with the current signage would result in several additional flips, or requiring the driver to manually input a new sign code, and (as you mentioned) would become inaccurate fairly quickly. It can also confuse riders. In the future, with GPS triggering, the destination signs could post major stops along the way like Lincoln Square, the Illini Union, or Illinois Terminal. There are some limitations and challenges to keep in mind. There are only so many sign codes available. Also, riders may find it useful to know what the next major stop is but are likely to still be interested in knowing the terminus point as well. When we held a focus group on the destination signs in the summer of 2011, participants were weary of too many flips because of the potential of missing information as a bus moves along. Thank you for your question and for reading the post.

Re: Spring Break Service Reductions

Is it possible that the GPS automatic sign changing could also be used to change the content of the destination signs? I noticed that this year, all buses only display their final destinations, probably because they were always inaccurate for a portion of their route beforehand (buses would still say they were going somewhere after they had already passed it). With this, is it possible to put the other destinations back on the signs and have them automatically removed/updated when the bus passes them?
